Alba Berlin wins BBL
The German master has won the trophy for the eleventh time and crowned himself in his own hall to the record winner in this competition. Previously, the Berliner had shared the top brand with Bayer Leverkusen (ten victories each), now the Albatrossel celebrated their eleventh triumph. Best thrower at the Berliners was Maodo Lo with 20 points. The Merlin came T.J. Shorts on strong 30 meters.
The Berliners had to make a big piece of work for the 86: 76 victory. At the break, Alba 39:43 was in arrears, was only in the third quarter for the first time in the lead – and made it exciting despite the meantime convenient projection in the final phase. “We already had the game a few times in his hand, but have come back again,” said Berlin’s international Johannes Thiemann at “Magenta sport”. “It was so tough, you have just thought for a short time, if that will be. But we did a good job.”
For Albas Head Coach Israel Gonzalez – Successor of the Spanish Success Trainer AITO – the trophy victory marks the first title with the Berliners at the same time. “We have a lot in the season, there is the title tailwind,” says Thiemann.
In the semifinal Alba had prevailed on Saturday against the Niners Chemnitz with 91:81, Crailsheim had defeated the Lions Braunschweig with 85:71. Defending champion Bayern Munich failed in the quarterfinals to Chemnitz.
